  • TCU Hoops, 2022-23

With Miles back in the fold, it's time to start looking forward to the 2022-2023 TCU basketball season.

Today, the program announced they'll be part of the Emerald Coast Classic (a tournament they won back in 2017, by the way) in Niceville, Florida on November 25 & 26. The other participating teams are Clemson, Cal & Iowa.

Well, hmmm....now Damion Baugh has declared for the draft, though he's stated he's also retaining his college eligibility while he explores the process.

Have to wonder if he's looking for $omeone to per$uade him to $tay in $chool like what is likely to have happened with Miles.

A ludicrously too early 2023 bracketology from ESPN has the Frogs as a 5-seed.

They have our little Froggies at #13.

Other relevant teams in their rankings include:

      2. Houston

Sounds like Damion Baugh is not going to withdraw from the NBA Draft, as was expected when he'd initially declared. So long after one great season, Damion!

            Incoming transfer:

Rondel Walker is a 6'5" guard who transfers to TCU after two seasons at Oklahoma State. Known more as a gritty and active defender, he averaged 4.9 points per game off the bench for the Pokes last season - but did reach double figures in scoring six times, including 12 in OSU's home win over the Frogs. His career high was 20, in a road win over Iowa State during his freshman season. He played AAU ball alongside Mike Miles.

ESPN updated their preseason Top 25 this morning.

Frogs come in at #15. Says ESPN:

We were all set to drop TCU into the 20s following Damion Baugh's announcement that he planned to pursue his professional options as opposed to returning for another season with the Horned Frogs. It left Jamie Dixon short on perimeter options, and would have been only the second key departure from last season's team. TCU even went out and landed Oklahoma State transfer Rondel Walker last weekend, which lent more credence to the idea that Baugh was moving on. And then Baugh had a change of heart, saying he was going back to TCU for another season. With Baugh back in the fold, Dixon now has all five starters back from last season -- and the addition of Walker and the return to health of Shahada Wells should give the Horned Frogs added options on the perimeter.

Other relevant teams in the rankings:

              #2 - Houston
              #7 - Baylor
              #8 - Arkansas
              #10 - Kansas
              #11 - Texas
              #22 - Texas Tech

Looks like we added another transfer:

6'5" guard Tyler Lundblade, who walked on and then earned a scholarship at SMU last season, is now a Frog - according to his own Instagram account. He split his high school career between Grapevine Faith and a private school in Greensboro, NC.

His older brother, Brad Lundblade, played offensive line at Oklahoma State and has spent time with 4 different NFL teams since 2018.

TCU will be on the road in this year's Big 12 / SEC Challenge, facing Mississippi State on January 28th.

As the non-conference schedule starts to get pieced together, we know we'll face:

                  -An SEC team (Miss State)
                  -A Pac 12 team (Cal)
                  -A Big East team (Providence)
-Either an ACC team (Clemson) or a Big Ten team (Iowa)
