Fast-casual eatery "Sweetgreen" has signed basketball player Micah Peavy, volleyball player Madi Cole and high jumper Jill Johnson to NIL deals. Apparently they're opening in Fort Worth soon.

When I drove up to the game last week with my dad, I was surprised that there were dispensaries in Oklahoma. I didn’t realize they legalized medicinal marijuana.

“Medicinal” is very loosely defined in Oklahoma, too. Just have to get a med card from the interwebs and you are good to go.

LOL it's very on brand. "Hey, we just need a few 'elite' teams that are tied to ESPN so we can pump them up. Anything that might level the playing field is completely uncalled for!!"

Pretty cool - Panther City Lacrosse Club has signed Johnny Hodges to an NIL deal:

Fort Worth, TX (March 27, 2023) –The Panther City Lacrosse Club has signed TCU student-athlete Johnny Hodges to a NIL deal, the team announced today. Hodges, a former lacrosse player at the Naval Academy, will work with Panther City to expand the brand’s footprint in Fort Worth and assist in promotion and ticket sales.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to partner with Panther City Lacrosse Club,” said Hodges. “Lacrosse has been a huge part of my life and the NLL is an incredible league. I’m excited to do anything I can to help grow the game in Fort Worth and spread the word about this team. I’m pumped to attend games and support these great guys as they make a playoff push. We need to pack Dickies Arena for our hometown team!”

Hodges will attend Panther City’s game on Saturday, April 1 at Dickies Arena against the Albany FireWolves. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. and Hodges will be available pre-game starting at 6 p.m. to sign autographs for fans in attendance. Fans can purchase $10 tickets to PCLC’s final two regular season home games via Hodges’ Instagram profile here.

At least he seems to be getting paid to provide a valuable service for which he has a prior resume. Too many NIL deals appear to be pay to play with minimal requirement for the athlete to earn the payments outside of their athletic participation.

I don't think we can - but I also think early returns from the beginning of the NIL era show that TCU can continue to attract and retain the type of talent we need to be competitive.

That's a lot of money to spend on guys that don't have a lot of success under their belts yet. And 3.7 million for a guy that hasn't even played a down is absolutely absurd.

I'm pretty sure that 3.6 million number is entirely fabricated. He didn't take any money, actually. Texas QB Arch Manning took 'zero money from NIL' despite high-profile commitment, says Steve Sarkisian - CBSSports.com

A couple of other developments announced by the Flying T Club last night at their annual party:
                1. They've entered into an exclusive contract with TCU Athletics to license the Flying T logo going forward. Soon to launch an apparel line that will benefit TCU student-athletes.
                2. Donations to the Flying T Club, already tax-deductible, will now also contribute to donors' priority points.

That still seems kinda crummy to me. Star QB gets a full ride and big NIL $$. Offensive tackle that almost nobody knows maybe gets some scholarship money. OT is actually more likely to stay long enough to graduate.

And if the OL and QB make it to the next level, the star QB will receive tens and maybe even hundreds of millions while the OL will receive mere millions. Besides having far greater name recognition (which few OL have, and name recognition correlates with dollars) the star QB typically has a far greater impact on the game than any individual OL.
