Jirousek gets broken again late and loses his second set, 5-7, and it's now 2-1 Frogs.

Fomba was broken late and lost his second set, 5-7. He'll have to start a third set as well.

Fearnley wins his third set, 6-2, to give the Frogs a 3-1 lead.

  • Aguilar closes out his third set and TCU wins, 4-1. They'll play the winner of the Texas-Baylor match that's currently at 2-2, with all three remaining singles matches in third sets.

Yes, I think this was a little more comfortable than the match in Norman. Jong was also up a break in his third set, but I’m glad Aguilar sewed it up when he did. The baseball game seemed much more stressful.

Baylor beat Texas 4-2, with former Frog Tadeas Paroulek getting the clincher, so the third meeting of TCU and Baylor will decide the tournament champion.

I was hoping to avoid Baylor, honestly

  • Not a good start for TCU today as Baylor wins the doubles point.

Aguilar lost his second set, 4-6, so he'll start a third set.

Fearnley's third set is on serve at 6-5, and Jong's third set is probably also on serve at 3-2.

Fearnley gets the late break to win his match! Baylor's lead is down to 3-2.

Jong is still at 3-2 in his third set. There's no score posted yet in Aguilar's third set.

According to the TCU Men's Tennis twitter account, play has been suspended because of lightning in the area.

  • With the heavy weather rolling into Fort Worth, you've gotta wonder if Jong & Aguilar's third sets will be moved inside.

Jong's third set is headed to a tiebreaker. It appears that Jong didn't score a point in the second-set tiebreaker. Looks like he might be down 0-3 already. And Aguilar is down 3-5 in his third set. Things are looking bleak.

And Aguilar loses his set, 3-6, and the Frogs fall, 2-4. Jong was down 1-5 in his tiebreaker, so that wasn't going well, either.

We'll have to wait for the NCAA seedings to see how much this hurts.

  • I think we'll beat them if we face them in the tournament. Can't lose the doubles point, though.

    • TCU remains at No. 1 in this week's ITA ranking, but their lead in the average used to determine rankings is much smaller. (In last week's rankings, TCU led second-place Ohio State by almost 5 points, 82.649 to 77.72. In this week's rankings, TCU's average is 81.895, and second-place Florida's average is 80.596. Baylor (79.915) and Ohio State (78.161) are within 5 points of TCU.)

Baylor is now No. 3, and the othe Big 12 teams are Texas (12), Oklahoma (35), Tech (43), and Oklahoma State (51).

I can't tell if this is the week that a team's 10 best wins are counted for the average, or if that happens next week. TCU's. According to collegetennisranks.com, TCU's best win, over Ole Miss, is worth 50 points. Florida's 10th best win is worth 64.9 points. If the 10th win is included starting next week, Florida will probably overtake the No. 1 spot. Points will get shifted around some next week as well. The Big 12, SEC, and ACC have all finished their conference tournaments and the next match for teams that make the field will be in the NCAA tournament. But the Big 10 and a few other conferences haven't played their tournaments yet. Notably, Ohio State and Michigan both have a chance at another quality win.

TCU players ranked in the Top 125 in singles are Fomba (14), Aguilar (15), Jong (69), Fearnley (83), and Maxted (105). Doubles teams ranked in the Top 90 are Fearnley/Fomba (2), Maxted/Vives (12), and Jong/Maxted (13).

The only pro still playing this week is Alex. He's won two matches and reached the quarterfinals at a Challenger event in Savannah. Alex started the week ranked No. 337 and has beaten No. 281 (Uchida) and No. 226 (Jung). Two nice wins for him, and both were straight sets. Reese was also in Savannah for doubles, but lost in the first round today. Nick lost in qualifying at a Challenger in the Czech Republic. His ranking is now 460, down from his career-high of 329 back in November.

Is that THE #1 seed overall, or "a" #1 seed like in baseball or basketball? Either way, impressive!

TCU is the overall No. 1 seed.

      • TCU will play Drake first, and if they win that match they’ll play the winner of the Utah vs. Ole Miss match.

        • The selections for the NCAA singles and doubles tournaments were announced yesterday.

Carlos Aguilar and Luc Fomba are the only Frogs selected to play singles, and they're both 9-16 seeds in the field of 64. Fomba and Luc Fomba are the top seeds in the 36-team doubles tournament. Sander Jong and Lui Maxted were also selected and are unseeded. No Frogs are listed as alternates for either tournament. The draw will be released later, and might not be until after the team tournament is over.

11th-ranked and 9th-seeded Cam beat No. 23 John Isner, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, today to reach the round of 16 in Madrid. Cam's next opponent is Carlos Alcaraz, the 18-year-old, 9th-ranked and 7th-seeded Spaniard who ended Cam's bid to repeat as champion at Indian Wells earlier this year with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Alcaraz also beat Cam in straight sets at the US Open in 2021. If Cam can figure out a way to get past Alcaraz, he'll have a quarterfinal match against Nadal, who's playing in a tournament for the first time since a foot injury sidelined him last August. Cam is also paired with Tommy Paul to play doubles, and they won their first-round match yesterday. They're scheduled to play 8th-seeded Michael Venus and Jamie Murray tomorrow.

No. 305 Alastair Gray is in Nottingham for a Futures tournament. He beat No. 529 Ben Patael in the first round, and is scheduled to play No. 1427 Lucas Poullain, who played for Florida State, tomorrow. Poullain was ranked a career-high 426 in May of 2021, so that low ranking may not reflect how good he might be.

No sign of Alex, Nick, or Reese playing anywhere this week.

Cam lost to Alcaraz, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6. Cam has been ill all week and was coughing throughout the match, it was Alcaraz’s nineteenth birthday, and the match was in Spain. Cam never had a chance. A positive is that Cam finally won a set from Alcaraz.

Alastair won a very close match, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). His quarterfinal opponent will be fellow Brit Oscar Weightman, who is at his career-high ATP rank of 704.

        • 4-0 over Drake to start the tournament. It wasn't that easy, though.

          • No. 11 Cam is the top seed in Lyon this week, and his second-round match with No. 44 Francisco Cerundolo is currently on the Tennis Channel. Cam just got a late break to win the first set, 6-4 (And now the Tennis Channel has switched to catch the finish of another match.)

Alex picked up a first-round win today at an ATP Challenger event in Francavilla de Mare, Italy.

The Horned Frogs have already headed to Champaign and play 8th-seeded Kentucky at 3:00 pm CT on Thursday. The top eight seeds all won their regional matches last weekend, so the Elite 8 is comprised of those top eight seeds. No. 3 Baylor and No. 6 Tennessee also play at 3:00. The 7:00 pm matches will be No. 2 Florida vs. No. 7 Virginia, and No. 4 Ohio State vs. No. 5 Michigan.

They just showed a graphic of what the fourth round will look like if seeds hold. If he gets that far, 10th-seeded Cam would play 6th-seeded Carlos Alcaraz if he can also advance to the fourth round. Cam is also in the same half of the draw as Djokovic, Nadal, and Zverev.

The Tennis Channel has switched to a different match, but I see that Cam has an early break in the third set and leads it 2-0.

Alex should be starting the third set of this doubles match soon.

Cam is into the semifinals with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win. Rybakov and Galarneau also made it to their doubles semifinal with a 10-8 third set, which I think was a tiebreaker set and not a full set.

          • Frogs grab the doubles point against Kentucky.
